Background & Aims
Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience resulting from tissue damage, whether actual or potential or described in such terms. Pain can occur in people of all ages and can occur in various conditions, such as nociceptive pain, neuropathic pain, central sensitization pain, and others. Differentiating nociceptive pain, neuropathic pain, and central sensitization pain in medical practice can be challenging, as the symptoms often overlap, and correct diagnosis requires an in- depth understanding of the patient’s clinical history, physical examination, as well as the use of various diagnostic aids. The aim of this research is to determine the validity and reliability of the pain type screening instrument in identifying types of pain based on its mechanism.
Methods
This research is a validity and reliability test study, with a cross-sectional retrospective approach. The sample for this study was patients with complaints of pain with a total sample of 120 patients taken using stratified random sampling techniques. The data taken is primary data from the responses to the questionnaire.
Results
The results of the study showed that 10 total nociceptive pain questions, 12 total neuropathic pain questions, and 18 total central sensitization pain questions were declared valid and reliable, according to statistical results, while 1 subjective neuropathic pain question was declared invalid. Analysis of the Pearson correlation test and reliability test using the Cronbach’s Alpha method shows that there are 41 total questions that have been declared valid and reliable, and 1 question that has been declared invalid.
Conclusions
Paindre screening tool was valid and reliable for measuring nociceptive pain, neuropathic pain and centralized pain. Paindre screening tool was well used for initial screening for the pain so can determines the therapy for patients.
