Background & Aims

Nurses’ knowledge and attitudes towards pain are independent predictors of appropriate practice. In the UBT college, nursing students complete their 3-year studies and the curriculum includes lessons on pain management. This study aimed to investigate third nursing students’ knowledge and attitudes regarding pain management.

Methods

Methodology: The approach was quantitative using a structured questionnaire to examine the knowledge and attitude of third-year students regarding pain management. The Nurses’ Knowledge and Attitude Survey Regarding Pain (NKASRP) tool was used to collect data. Data analysis was done using SPSS 26.

Results

Result: 147 students answered the questionnaire. The mean score for knowledge and attitude was 47.2% (SD=11.5). During the analysis of the results from the survey, the average students’ knowledge and attitude was at average level.

Conclusions

Conclusion: Third-year nursing students at UBT college have poor to average knowledge about pain management. It can be concluded that the school of nursing should, with a serious approach, revise the study program and complete it with information related to the evaluation and management of pain based on evidence.
